Scheduled downtime for server move to datadock data center from August 30 to 31 from 08/13/2016
We are moving: The server EPO is hosted on will be moving to the datadock in Strasbourg, France by the end of this month. For this reason, we would like to announce a scheduled downtime of 12 hours starting August 30th at 6 PM (GMT). Thank you for your understanding!

The datadock is the most energy efficient and environmentally friendliest data center in Europe to date. Normally more than 60% of the energy, which is needed for operating the IT (servers, storage etc.), has to be added for operating the data center infrastructure (especially the climate system). At datadock, however, the overhead only amounts to 18%, which means that by comparison 66% overhead can be saved. This equates to more than 25 million kWh power savings per year at full load; which in turn means more than 24 million kg less CO2 emission, which is the CO2 consumption of over 119,000 trees in one year. Besides, the cooling system operates with clean hydro power and the data center itself is exclusively using green electricity!

The technical highlights include a fully redundant MPLS ring structure with a total capacity of 100 GBit, which connects the data center on one path directly to Frankfurt, Germany and also on another redundant path over Paris, France and Brussels, Belgium. In this way it is ensured all the time that all data is transferred to the Internet with the highest performance and availability.

We look forward to becoming a part of this unique Green IT project!

The datadock data center came into being by remodeling a former warehouse in the port area of Strasbourg. The planning phase had already begun in 2007; in 2009 the operator PlusServer GmbH started all necessary rebuilding measures and construction of infrastructure. The datadock was finished and put into operation in autumn 2010.

Among other things, its excellent connections – all important European IT and Telco lines run through Strasbourg – as well as its central European position recommend Strasbourg as the perfect construction site. The data center has an optimal location which guarantees fastest connections to all European regions, thus enabling PlusServer GmbH to provide all international customers with high quality services.

Right from the start much attention was paid to outstanding power efficiency when planning the data center, so that later on the environment could be protected and operating costs saved. Therefore, the fact that the building is situated in one of Europe's groundwater-richest areas also influenced the choice of location. Because this groundwater opened up the possibility to implement an innovative and eco-friendly well cooling system into the data center concept, which is also unique in its kind. That way, datadock's energy consumption could be kept so low in the end, that it can be called Europe's greenest data center.
