»Gaycation« to premiere on Viceland in February 2016 / Best of Halifax 2015 survey / All Souls Eve Fete benefit gala

VICE and A&E Networks (a joint venture of Disney, Hearst Corp and NBC Universal Inc.) have released a launch trailer for all of the new shows premiering on Viceland, a 24-hour TV channel coming in February 2016. One of them is the under-the-radar LGBT docu-series »Gaycation« with Ellen Page and her bff Ian Daniel who travel around the world and explore the local attitudes toward LGBT culture in each city they visit. The new channel is going to replace A&E's H2 network on cable and satellite TV and will reach more than 70 million Stateside homes, according to the media group.

Ellen has once again been voted the "Best Halifamous Person" in The Coast's "Best of Halifax" readers' survey for the eighth year in a row. Unlike the years before, she however did not make it into the top three in the "Best Female Film / TV Actor" category, which was won by actress Jackie Torrens for portraying social worker Drucie MacKay on Thom Fitzgerald's mini series »Sex & Violence«. For those who don't know it: The Coast is a free alternative weekly newspaper that has an estimated circulation of 24,000 copies per week throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality, as well as a large on-line readership. From the first "Best of Halifax survey" in 1995 through today, its readers have cast millions of votes in order to choose thousands of people, places and businesses as the city’s best. It's definitely nice to see that the people have not forgotten about the actress and still consider her the pride and joy of Halifax.

On Wednesday last week, Ellen and her girlfriend Samantha Thomas attended the 6th annual "All Souls Eve Fête" benefit gala hosted by LAND (Los Angeles Nomadic Division) at the historic Ebell of Los Angeles. The event is described as an immersive, macabre evening of dinner, cocktails, dancing, and live performances, capped off by silent and live auctions. LAND is a non-profit art organization founded in 2009 as a public art initiative and a "museum without walls" whose mission is to provide the public with the opportunity to experience innovative site- and situation-specific contemporary art in their day-to-day lives in order to develop new ideas and ways of thinking about their world. In turn, it also provides artists the opportunity to realize projects, otherwise unsupported, in the public realm.
